The University of Pittsburgh is an integral piece of the state’s economic success, and Pitt operations directly or indirectly impact nearly every resident of Pennsylvania. With five diverse campuses, a robust research footprint and a partnership with one of the world’s largest academic medical centers, Pitt contributes significantly to the state and local economies in all regions of the commonwealth.
In FY '21, the University:
- Generated more than $5.2 billion in economic impact to the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as a result of expenditures on goods and services by Pitt and its staff, faculty, students and visitors
- Supported more than 47,000 jobs statewide
- Generated more than $270 million in local taxes to the state and municipalities throughout the Keystone State
